Umoja Elder Council

Baba Jeri Marshall is a descendant of the African Diaspora whose history is deeply intertwined with the origins of civilization and the Maafa, the great catastrophe that disrupted African peoples and cultures worldwide. He embodies the richness of our heritage, the vibrancy of our present, and the promise of our future.

Elder Jeri Marshall is the fifth of nine children born to Joseph and Odessa Marshall. He is a devoted husband and the proud father of two daughters. For more than three decades, he has dedicated his life to education, youth development, community empowerment, and violence prevention.

Throughout his distinguished career, Jeri has served in a variety of impactful roles, including Program Director at the Omega Boys Club in Vallejo, California; College Coach and Counselor at Langston University; Outreach Specialist and Adjunct Instructor at American River College; and Vice President of the Classified Senate at American River College. He also served as a member of the Celebration of Excellence and Achievement for Students of African Descent within the Los Rios Community College District and continues to serve faithfully as a youth minister.

Jeri remains committed to strengthening individuals, families, and communities as an educational consultant, violence prevention practitioner, and community leader. He is a Legacy Founder of the Umoja Community Education Foundation and currently serves as the Wisdom Keeper on the Umoja Council of Elders. In addition, he serves as Chairperson for Strategic Planning on the Omega Boys Club/Alive & Free Board of Directors in San Francisco.

A proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Jeri's academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Urban Planning from California State University, Sonoma; a Master of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Leisure from Oklahoma State University; and a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of La Verne.

Guided by a lifelong commitment to service, cultural restoration, and human development, Baba Jeri Marshall continues to inspire others through his work, leadership, and unwavering dedication to helping people become fully alive and free.
